Set Realistic Weight Loss Goals
When you make the important decision that its time to do something about your weight, you will need to make choices that will give you the best chances of succeeding in achieving the goals you set for yourself. Yet one of the major reasons for not meeting those goals is the very decision to set them so high that you can't reasonably achieve them. How Much Weight To Lose?
The first thing you need to really think hard about is how much weight you really need to lose. That may be influenced by a doctor or dietitian who has told you that you need to lose a certain amount of weight in order to avoid health problems associated with your current weight. The problem comes when you are told that you need to lose so much weight that it creates a barrier in your mind because you can't see how you are going to realistically achieve it. To make things easier on yourself, especially if you have to lose a lot of weight, is to break it up into smaller, more manageable chunks.
You can do this over time, so you may want to set yourself a series of achievable goals and allow yourself the luxury of keeping the pressure off. For instance, say you need to lose a total of thirty pounds. That is a lot of weight to lose, but if you break it up so that you set yourself a series of goals to lose about one quarter of that amount, or around eight pounds each time.
Set a Time Limit
Then you need to set a time limit to lose those eight pounds. It would be reasonable to give yourself one month at a safe two pounds per week to make it easily achievable. When, after the first month, you have lost the eight pounds then you can move onto the next month and the next eight pounds and so on until you have lost the whole thirty pounds.
The trick here is to start with a small goal, or mini-goal and a believable and achievable length of time in which to attain it and then succeed easily, because in all honesty, you most likely will attain weight loss success. Then once you have achieved your initial mini-goal, go for the next one with such a heightened sense of confidence and motivation that these qualities will see you through to your next mini-goal. You just keep going, building yourself up higher and higher because each mini-goal is so easily achievable that you feel great each time you hit a target!

That way you provide yourself with the motivation to succeed because you can see the end result much more clearly when it looks that much more easily achievable.
